Take to the water on Argyll’s Secret Coast!

Take to the water on Argyll’s Secret Coast!
The sea is part and parcel of life here on Argyll’s Secret Coast, bordered as we are by two beautiful stretches of water, Loch Fyne and the Kyles of Bute. So don’t miss out on the opportunity to take to the water!

1. Set sail. With scenery, wild life, protective hills, deep water, silent anchorages, relaxed tides and no crowds, Argyll’s Secret Coast is a sailors’ paradise. At Portavadie you’ll find Five Gold Anchor award-winning marina facilities, while many of the local hotels and restaurants, including the Colintraive Hotel, Royal an Lochan, Kames Hotel and The Oystercatcher, all have dedicated visitors' moorings. If you fancy learning the ropes, Tighnabruaich Sailing School provides dinghy sailing courses for adults and children, beginners and improvers in the beautiful Kyles of Bute.

2. Kayaking is an unbeatable way to explore the coastline of Argyll's Secret Coast. With secluded beaches, turquoise white sands and deserted islands, this area is a perfect for paddling. The sheltered waters of the Kyles are great for beginners. This September, Sea Kayak Argyll is offering residential sea kayak training at Carry Farm. Week one is for new or novice kayakers, and week two will develop those skills further.

3. Take a trip up the Kyles of Bute on board Morag to view Argyll’s Secret Coast from a completely new perspective. Join ex-naval commander Donald Clark on his refurbished fishing boat for spectacular views. Look out for seals, porpoises and the many sea birds that inhabit the area. Trips of over one hour include the opportunity to try your hand at fishing. Donald can take you to the good fishing grounds! Morag operates from Tighnabruaich Pier.

4. Or how about a Loch Fyne adventure on board Fyne Explorer, a Redbay Stormforce RIB? Fyne Sea Tours offers a wide range of excursions on Loch Fyne from Portavadie. There’s everything from a 30-minute blast to an afternoon sightseeing tour taking in castles, wildlife and more.

5. For something a bit longer, you can’t beat a bespoke cruise on board Splendour, a beautifully converted Scottish wooden fishing vessel operated by Argyll Cruising. Explore Argyll’s Secret Coast and beyond in style, with luxury rooms and delicious food and drink. There are a number of cruises to choose from, including the three-night ‘Kyles & The Isles’ which takes in some of our most stunning beauty spots.

6. And finally - no holiday is complete without a dip in the sea – take the plunge off any of the lovely bays and beaches dotting Argyll’s Secret Coast. The water is superbly clear and wonderful for snorkeling or diving.
