Six reasons why you should run the Kyles 10 Miles this year!

Six reasons why you should run the Kyles 10 Miles this year!
Glorious scenery, a stunning coastal route and incredible views at every turn – no wonder the Kyles 10 Miles is called ‘Scotland’s scenic road race! This cracking road race takes place on Argyll’s Secret Coast, a beautiful, undiscovered part of Argyll that’s just two hours from Glasgow. Still need convincing? Here are six reasons why you should put Saturday 8th September in your diary and sign up online for the Kyles 10 Miles today. But you’ll need to be quick – the Walk is already full and the Run is filing up fast.

1. The west coast scenery
The Kyles 10 Miles route is all about the scenery. You couldn’t have designed a more scenic route if you tried. Heading off from the lovely coastal village of Tighnabruaich, the undulating circular route follows a quiet coastal road around the Ardlamont peninsula. You’ll pass through a stunning and diverse landscape, from rolling farmland to woodland copses to wild coastline. Catch glimpses of secluded beaches and glorious views across to Arran, Bute and Kintyre as you walk or run along. You’ll finish at the Kames Hotel, which is right on the beach over looking the famous Kyles of Bute. You can even have a little paddle in the sea to cool down after the race!

2. The 10-mile route
Ten mile runs aren't that common and it's a brilliant length for a road race. Rise to the challenge of a course that combines inclines, descents and long flat straights and spectacular scenery. The route offers challenges not found on many road race circuits in the west of Scotland. The first five miles of the race are hilly, while the final five miles flatten out as you head north along the coastal road towards the finish line at Kames. Whether you’re a seasoned club runner or a first timer, you’ll find this route has something to offer.

3. The friendly vibe
The Kyles 10 Miles is a real community affair, and you can expect a hearty welcome, a friendly vibe and fantastic hospitality at the finish line. There are over 20 marshals along the course to point you in the right direction. They’re all local volunteers who help out every year and they’ll give you a big cheer as you pass. The Kames Hotel runs a BBQ at the end of the race to provide much needed fuel. Kick back on the ‘paddock’ in front of the hotel with a well-earned drink and a burger and enjoy the views. The legendary evening ceilidh is great fun, and is already sold out for this 2018.

4. All the extras
Chip timing, wicking t-shirts, race commentary and great goodie bags all add to the day. Plus there’s a local Producers’ Market held in the registration hall, with lots of local produce, crafts and home baking to tempt you. Everyone over the finish line gets a medal, t-shirt and goodie bag. The winners receive vouchers to spend on Argyll’s Secret Coast.

5. Proximity to Glasgow
Argyll’s Secret Coast is just two hours from Glasgow and the journey takes you through fabulous scenery. You can drive via the famous ‘Rest & be Thankful’ mountain pass or by ferry via Dunoon. The last 15 minutes of your journey are spectacular as you climb over the mountains and enjoy the views of the Kyles of Bute (and the peninsula you will run around!) before you descend into Tighnabruaich. Why not make a weekend of it and discover all this area has to offer? You’ll find a great range of holiday accommodation and places to eat. Accommodation does get booked up for the Kyles 10 Miles weekend, so do book ahead if you’re planning to stay.

6. And dare we mention the weather? For the last few years the Kyles 10 Miles has basked in glorious September sunshine.

Places are filling up fast and we expect to be full soon, so make sure you sign up for the Kyles 10 Miles online today!

We are delighted to be sponsored by Radisson RED Glasgow. The Kyles 10 Miles is Scottish Athletics affiliated.
