Supporting the Nancy Glen Appeal on Argyll’s Secret Coast

Supporting the Nancy Glen Appeal on Argyll’s Secret Coast
On the 18th of January the Nancy Glen fishing boat of Tarbert sank in Loch Fyne. One fisherman survived. Sadly, the two other crew members, Duncan MacDougall and Przemek Krawczyk, have not been found. It’s thought they remain on the vessel which now lies on the seabed. The families wish to retrieve their loved ones as soon as possible and the fishermen have left wives and young children behind. The Nancy Glen Appeal is raising funds to recover the missing men and support their families.

Communities across the country are pulling together to support the appeal. Here on Argyll’s Secret Coast, individuals and businesses have been donating money and organising fundraising events. Here are some that you can support.

On Friday night (2nd February) the Kames Hotel is holding a Pub Quiz and all entry fees will be donated to the Nancy Glen Appeal. The quiz starts at 8pm in the bar. Everyone is welcome.

This Saturday (3rd February), Leoma & Michael at Botanica are holding a Nancy Glen Fundraiser Lunch. Local suppliers have donated produce and food, which will be cooked and served by Botanica with 100% of the takings donated to the Nancy Glen Appeal. With haggis donated by Shellfield Farm, free range pork by Auckenbreck Farm, Hebridean Lamb by Carry Farm, free range eggs by Stronachullin Farm, langoustines by Prentice Seafood in Tarbert, fish by A & D Johnston, fresh vegetables by Breckenbridge of Oban and lamb from Macintyre’s of Bute, it’s sure to be an unforgettable fundraising feast. Inverarity Morton have also donated wine and beer. Coffee, tea and home-baking will be served from 11am and lunch from 12noon till 2.30pm. The menu won’t have prices, you just pay what you want and no booking is required. Leoma and Michael said: ‘Please join us and help raise the funds that are desperately needed for our neighbours in Tarbert. We would like to help, as a family, as a business, as local people, as parents, we really hope everyone on Saturday can come and support us.’

Raj & Anita from Kyles Premier Store will also be supporting the appeal with Raj’s Curry Night on Sunday 4th February. £2 from every main curry sold will be donated to the appeal. The curries are all homemade by Raj & Anita, with mains including Chicken Murg Masala and King Prawn Curry. Place your order in store by Friday 2nd February. Curries need to be picked up from the store.

We would also like to recognise and give our thanks to all the incredible individuals who have worked so tirelessly on the search and rescue operations. Local volunteer RNLI crews, Coastguard Rescue Teams, fishing boats, local boats and CalMac ferries were all involved in the search and rescue operations, pulling together in incredibly tough times. Tighnabruaich, Arran and Campbeltown RNLI Lifeboats were sent, alongside the HM Coastguard Prestwick helicopter and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Tarbert, Kames, Inveraray and Crinan. The teams continued to search, with Kames Coastguard Rescue Team carrying out search patrols on daily basis along Loch Fyne’s Eastern Shore Line with support from Dunoon and Inveraray Coastguard Rescue Teams. Portavadie became the operations hub for the Coastguard team working from the Spa & Leisure Café.

If you would like to support the RNLI’s work you can make a donation here. If you would like find out more about fundraising for the local RNLI team, the Tighnabruaich RNLI Fundraising Branch is holding its AGM on 7th February at 7pm in the Tighnabruaich Hotel. This is an open meeting and everyone is welcome.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends and all those affected by this tragic event.
