Hogmanay Argyll style! How to celebrate New Yearís Eve on Argyllís Secret Coast
Why not spend New Year on Argyll’s Secret Coast? There’s loads going on, from day-time family events to celebration dinners and ceilidhs. Make it a Hogmanay to remember on Argyll’s Secret Coast.

Hogmanay family fun
Kyles Coastal Rowing Club is hosting a mini coastal rowing (skiff) regatta on Hogmanay (31st December). Take part or come along and cheer on the teams. The event kicks off at 11am on the beach next to the RNLI lifeboat station in Tighnabruaich. All you need to do is get together a crew of five (including the coxswain). Boats and lifejackets will be provided, but bring a lifejacket if you have one. To enter your team email info@kylesrowing.org or turn up on the day. Home baking, tea and coffee will be available with proceeds going to the Tighnabruaich RNLI and the Pier Association.

When you’ve finished rowing, head up to Kilfinan Community Forest’s ‘Bright Lights, Dark Nights’ Hogmanay extravaganza. Celebrate Hogmanay with friends and family, young and old up in the woods. There will be a lantern making workshop and singsong for kids, and a barbecue and fireworks before finishing off with a 'Viking' boat burning! All this in a magnificent setting looking out over the Kyles of Bute. The event runs from 2.30pm to 5pm.

Hogmanay dinner & dancing
Walk into any of the hotel pubs and bars on Argyll’s Secret Coast on New Year’s Eve and you can expect a friendly welcome and a great night with plenty of west coast bonhomie. The Kames Hotel is always a good spot to see in the New Year with locals and visitors alike. The Oystercatcher at Otter Ferry is keeping it low-key on New Year’s Eve, but expect great food and drink in fantastic surroundings. Some of the hotels and restaurants are putting on special Hogmanay events that you’ll need to book. Enjoy a fabulous New Year’s Eve Dinner at Botanica in the heart Tighnabruaich. The evening starts with a meal followed by a small ceilidh in the Clan Lamont Room. The everyone everyone wanders up to the local church to hear the bells being rung by the oldest inhabitant of the village before heading back to the hotel for a dram, haggis and neeps and more dancing. New Year’s Day
After all that partying, you might need something to clear your head. And what better way than an icy plunge into the Kyles of Bute? The en-masse New Year's Day Dip takes place on the beach in front of the Kames Hotel at 1pm. You can warm up in the Kames Hotel afterwards with drinks and soup (free for the dippers!). Alternatively you could have a lie in and stroll to The Tearoom in Tighnabruaich for a fresh coffee and all-day breakfasts. Botanica, just across the road, will also be open for food and drinks. The hotel bars will be open throughout the day. The Royal an Lochan puts on it’s annual New Year’s Day firework show on the beach at 6pm.
